Hobbies & interests 🧩

I practice around 3 hours of yoga daily and I have played guitar my whole life!

I want to teach people how to play music; my musical ability and understanding has poured over and I now own a piano, an accordion, many harmonicas, flutes, irish whistle, jaw harp, drum, melodica… I want more instruments!

If anyone wants to learn how to make music, please let me know!

I do not know formal music education (grades etc), but I understand the guitar fret board and piano keyboard (flutes and harmonicas etc are a branch from these), chords and scales and how to make them all come together through your fingers to reproduce your favourite songs or write your own! (THE MOST IMPORTANT AND FUN ASPECTS!)

I deliver pizzas every night but I will reduce my hours if I have students! I love to make music and I will take you on a journey to develop your understanding and ability every lesson until your brain is exhausted !

Hi @EleanorDavis - I used to do Swing Dance at University! I’m not the most ‘refined’ dancer but I really loved it. Before lockdown, I was actually looking for swing/jazz classes in my local area but they are quite hard to come by.

Good on you for going virtual! Keep kitchen dancing!! :dancer: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi @KathrinS - that’s so awesome. I could go on about pilates all day - it’s totally changed the way I move (and that’s just doing practices at home). Do you do virtual instruction? I would love to learn more

@AnnaDuncanScience - I use ‘Pilates & Yoga with Katja’ and ‘MVMT With Cailin’. Katja is very good for beginners because she gives really detailed instructions but Calin has some more advanced videos for when you feel more confident :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@Rosie_A yes I teach entirely online at the moment, and once lockdown ends, I think it will be a hybrid of in-person and online sessions. I do think in-person sessions can be important because of all the Pilates machines (the reformer, the cadillac, the Wunda Chair etc.) which can be a great addition to the mat exercises. But most of my clients report feeling stronger since working on the mat so much.

@EleanorDavis yes, I love to dance! I was actually a semi professional ballet and contemporary dancer before focusing more on teaching Pilates and German. I do miss it and might sign up to some classes again once lockdown is over.

I think my favourite thing to do, maybe a little odd, but studying! I absolutely love studying my subject, Literature, plus other languages (French and Spanish) to assist my understanding of my own language with the hope of potentially moving abroad to teach EFL at some point :speech_balloon:

I am an avid reader and a keen writer too. Lockdown has meant I have had more time to indulge in these more which has been a blessing :books:

Hi,
most of my hobbies are also my interests… like music I love playing and singing, being in the show business for more than 35 years, but I love teaching that too, so I do it for more than 10 years too… The other hobby is taking care of the people, and support them with my ideas and based on my life experience, trying to help them to get out of stress and depression, this again is not just a hobby, is also an interest, doing it as a professional life coach mindfulness and motivational trainer, maybe the only hobby that I really do just for joy is photography. I love to take pictures everywhere all the time, to catch most of the real and weird moments and situations… my camera is always handy… of course, I have a couple of more hobbies, like cooking, sporting and admiring the nature the flowers and travelling as much as possible… to learn new languages… my spectrum of hobbies and interests it’s quite large …

Hi Rachel,

I think Yoga is one of the best choices especially this time. I have done many years just since I’ve got a bit bigger ( ) and not feeling too comfy with the situation I am not able to do some important exercises at the moment… So had to decide to lose a couple of Kgs, (40) then I will restart this great and joyful hobby again… Good luck with it! :+1:

Definitely, I’m really enjoying it. Thank you

Sorry to hear you’ve had to stop for a while - best of luck for getting back into it soon!

I saw on your above post that you’ve got many other hobbies too @ChameleonM.S.Empire , I’d love to hear more about your time in show business - what has that involved? :sparkles:

My hobbies include gardening and I agree with @Kitty, even in winter! its just great for the mental wellbeing and fresh air, especially in the current situation.
My main hobby is music in the form of listening to music but mainly playing keyboard / piano / accordion, etc. Its just great that when you my be feeling a certain way (including the negatives the pandemic and the dark cold wet evening of winter have brought), you can sit and loose your self while listening to the next potential composition or playing and previous favorite original or playing a variety of others performers pieces.

@Rachel_Tutorful its great to hear of others learning a musical instrument and i still have my guitar but am far less fortunate in my progress with this. I put it down to being left handed

As if that wasn’t enough, I also enjoy looking after the menagerie of animals we have including two tortoise.

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your kind words, so, show business, for me means playing music all over the world in different places with different or the same band/bands, also playing solo piano in night bars, restaurants, events, weddings, high-end level events, concerts, recitals and festivals. I have been playing onboard Cruise ships for more than 8,5 years, with different companies and places, from Alaska to Israel, everywhere, enjoying also all the other hobbies that I have like photography and filming… I have done over 2-3 hundred thousand photos all along my journeys. I think I am a very lucky man, who has got the most and more than a man can get from the Universe… and from its life or let’s say from its destiny… :innocent:

Hi @Rosie_A! That’s so cool! It’s really fun and I’d love to find some classes after lockdown. But I’ve definitely found that it’s not the easiest of dance styles for which to find classes. Kitchen dancing it is for now, then!

Wow @KathrinS, that’s so interesting! I think ballet is absolutely beautiful. Five years ago, I was lucky enough to see a production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. It was stunning. I would also love to take classes once we’re finally released from the clasps of this pandemic!

Wow, that sounds like an amazing performance. I also suggest seeing The Nutcracker, which is a Christmas classic and a favourite among dancers.

What I’d give to go and see live ballet! :star_struck:
This awful pandemic has really made me appreciate the small things …

I remember being a kid and hearing about how Wordsworth would spend his days walking in the countryside and thinking about how boring he was, but now I absolutely live for it. I live in a big city, but it is a 20 minute drive to beautiful countryside. Last year I was furloughed and was able to spend a couple of afternoons a week walking. I managed to go from being exhausted after 6 miles to going 13 miles with huge hills. It helped me physically (desk work is not good!) and mentally and I am absolutely itching to get back out there.
I do want to pick up a hobby that will help me meet people, as I am now fully self employed and I miss socialising! I thought about dancing classes, but I have 3 left feet and no rhythm  .

Music is more than a hobby to me. More of an obsession. If anyone’s interested, some of my songs are on

Hi Everyone,

I’m a piano teacher who’s also a writer. I have a comedy novel self-published on Amazon, and am trying to find a literary agent for my new comedy/horror novel that’s set around Bath and Solsbury Hill.
